Click to Tweet: http://clicktotweet.com/fBC76 Shirts, DVD's etc: http://www.tlapro.com/STORE.aspx Watch my other tutorials: http://www.youtube.com/polcan99 Learn what makes great looking images in film, music videos etc. It's not always the camera but how you design the shots. In this first overall tutorial I try to explain in general terms what designing a shot entails. This can be applied with any video cameras, as well as digital and film cameras. It's the basics of good photography. Special thanks to Beverley Marquis for starring in the video. Shot using the Red One Camera and Canon XH-A1. _____________________________ Follow me on: Twitter: http://twitter.com/TomAntos Facebook http://www.facebook.com/TomAntosFilms Google+ http://t.co/NlBWfPx My Facebook App: http://apps.facebook.com/polcanninenine/ My name's Tom Antos and I make videos. Your kidding right ...
Your kidding right? Because thats the most bullshit I've ever heard... First off, now one on youtube is trying to film a MOVIE. Maybe a short film... Second, film making is a skill. Anyone's skill's can improve on film making. For instance if you just started making videos. You wouldn't know shit about any part of it. If you've been doing it for a while you will have a better understanding and more experience. If you can't shoot any... Learn.

Not trying to ...
Not trying to nitpick here, but it's easy to say you don't need an expensive camera when you're shooting with a $25,000 camera. I dare anyone to get a decent shot out of the $400 Canon piece of junk video camera I have.

How to get that ...
How to get that 35mm film look: get a 35mm camera. The thing about 35mm film is that it has a special texture/organic look to it that video can't replicate. Don't go for a film look. Go for a cinematic look. Two different things.

@almightytreegod if ...
@almightytreegod if you're trying to isolate a detail or create a feeling a separation between the person and the world around them, sometimes that's a great time to use a shallow DOF. I mean, it can always make stuff pop, but if it's difficult to get, sometimes just use it for those two cinematic purposes.

I have a Panny ...
I have a Panny HVX200, and sometimes don't have room to stand back far enough to get a shallow DOF, even with the iris all the way open; not to mention if I do, the FOV is very narrow as well. Any tips? It might help if I knew a little better how to decide between shots that should use shallow DOF and shots that don't need it (if any).
