Genie in a bottle - cool science experiment

Genie in a Bottle - Cool Science Experiment
Check out this and other cool science experiments at www.stevespanglerscience.com Genie in a Bottle is not meant to do at home. Your chemistry teacher is a good resource to perform this experiment. Hydrogen peroxide is made up of water and oxygen - H2O2. In this experiment, the molecule is torn apart by a catalyst... manganese dioxide. (The hydrogen peroxide used in this video is 30% and not available in your local store). The secret to releasing the genie when the bottle is opened is placing the manganese dioxide on a string and hanging it above the hydrogen peroxide. When the cork is pulled, the string drops down into the liquid, starting the reaction... and releasing the genie from the bottle. The Genie in a Bottle is an example of an exothermic reaction because it releases heat. Touch the "genie bottle" and you will feel it become hot. About Steve Spangler Science... !!!EGG IN THE BOTTLE EXPERIMENT WITH A TWIST!!!
!!!EGG IN THE BOTTLE EXPERIMENT WITH A TWIST!!! (Balloon In A Bottle) SCIENCE EXPERIMENT Crazy Chris is checking out atmospheric pressure and shows you how to put a twist on the egg in the bottle trick by putting a water balloon in a pickle jar! Objective: To understand atmospheric pressures. Materials Needed: ~ Large Pickle Jar ~ Lighter ~ Piece of Paper ~ Balloon ~ Water Step 1) Get a balloon and fill the balloon with water and tie it off. Step 2) Light a peice of paper with adult supervision and place the lit peice of paper in the large picklej jar. Step 3) Place the water balloon on top of the jars mouth and watch. HOW IT WORKS: The reaons the balloon goes into the pickel jar, is because of atmopheric pressure. When you put the lit peice of paper in the jar, the heat causes the air to expand which is why the balloon bounces around on top of the jar. Once the fire has used up all the oxogen in the jar the flame goes out and air inside quickly cools loosing pressure. The higher outside air pressure pushes on the balloon and the balloon goes into the jar. To get the balloon out of the jar, you have to create equal amounts of air pressure inside and out, by putting the eraser side of a pencil in the mouth of the jar and then pull the balloon out. Air is made of molecules of gas and these gas molecules are held to the earth by earths gravity. Which causes these molecules to push down on everytihng creating pressure. The lower you are on earth the more air molecules there ...
